My favorite system:
1) look for the book on amazon.com
2) copy the ISBN
3) look for the best price on http://www.bestwebbuys.com . There are also online store coupons on the right side of the home page there.
I hope this helps.

A good place with competitive used book prices is
abebooks.com
(Advanced Book Exchange)
Even cheaper, though, is to check at the university’s library and check the book out. A lot of times you can do interlibrary loan too and they’ll get the book from another library.
I did this through most of graduate school and saved a TON of money. I’d highly recommend it. The only problem I could forsee is if it’s an older edition of the book- that is usually fine in most cases unless you are in a science field.
You can buy books from amazon.com or ebay.com.
i’m a huge fan of half.com (which is now owned by ebay… however, going to the ebay site will not necessarily bring up books listed on half.com).
try half.com, i get almost all of my books there and the prices are great. another good tip, don’t always buy from the “cheapest” seller, look at their seller rating, if they have less than 98%, I’ll buy a more expensive book from someone who has 100%.
